holly.gif Christmas and toilets. Toilets and Christmas. You may be wondering what the connection is. As one of the world's foremost experts on toilets-in-art, I have to say: I don't have a clue. No clue, that is, with the exception of the works of art presented here: fourteen pieces, created by ten artists, and all with a Christmas-toilet motif. It seems clear that each artist represented here is tortured by some incident involving a toilet that took place on a Christmas earlier in their lives. I hope they all are feeling better now.

This is by Kaz, my favorite living underground cartoonist. Mom better say "yes" in a hurry, or by the time this kid gets his present unwrapped, he won't have time to take off his overalls. I received this from Rob Owen, who likes to see his name mentioned. Are you happy, Ron? Huh?

Design by Michael Reed. The Message on the inside reads "Tinkle Bells." I'm thinking that a younger Michael walked in on Santa in mid-pee.

Original design by Max Haynes. The message on the inside reads "Yulelog." Get it? Something tells me that young Max got a lot of crap for Christmas.

Original design by Steve Fleischmann. The message on the inside reads "Just in time, another tasteless Christmas card." Hey, did Santa forget to put the toilet seat down?

This was a one of the pictures getting e-mailed around the corporate world during the 1998 Christmas season. Perhaps the suits could have avoided getting a hot log down their chimney if they spent more time working and less time e-mailing toilet pictures to each other. Not that I'm knocking it!

This is the very same toilet featured in The Public Restroom, where it is holding a lovely bouquet of roses. It seems that Lisa Millslagle and Leigh Kestle are not quite finished with having fun with their old toilet. Recent studies have shown that an effective therapy for people suffering from childhood toilet traumas is to play "dress-up" with old toilets. This looks like a breakthrough!
